Learning how to build a skincare routine that works is never a matter of luck. Many people try products at random, follow trends without a plan, and end up disappointed. To build a routine that makes sense, you need an approach that is personal, rational, and gradual.
Understand your skin first
There is no one-size-fits-all routine. Every skin has its own needs, linked to its type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive), its specific concerns (blemishes, dehydration, signs of aging, dark spots) and its daily environment (stress, pollution, climate…).
At WITH CARE, we always take this personalized approach. Before suggesting any routine, we start with a careful look at your skin so we can build a routine that truly suits it.

Observe before you act: the key to your routine
The first step is to observe your skin for at least 7 days, morning and night:
- Does it have shiny or dry areas?
- Do you notice redness, tightness, or visible blemishes?
- Does your skin stay comfortable throughout the day?
This phase helps you identify your skin's real needs, rather than assumed ones, and avoid choosing the wrong products. Once you have done this, you can set your priorities: hydration, radiance, comfort, a more even-looking complexion, healthy-looking skin over time…
How many steps does an effective routine need?
An effective routine does not depend on the number of products, but on how well they suit you. A base of 3 to 5 steps is more than enough for most needs.

Morning:
- Gentle cleanser
- Targeted serum
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
Night:
- Makeup remover (if you wear makeup)
- Cleanser
- Serum or targeted treatment product
- Night cream or face oil
The goal is to build a consistent routine, with products that work well together and respect your skin without overloading it.
Assess the results of your routine
Your routine is working if your skin:
- stays comfortable all day, without tightness or excess oil,
- looks healthier and more radiant,
- shows fewer reactions or blemishes.
The first visible results usually appear after 4 to 6 weeks. Regular tracking (notes, photos, a beauty journal) can help you adjust your products more easily as your skin changes.
Adapt your routine to the seasons
Your skin's needs change with the seasons:
- In winter: skin is more vulnerable (cold weather, indoor heating). Richer textures are a good choice, for example with ceramides or plant butters.
- In summer: heat increases oil production. Lightweight, non-comedogenic textures paired with sunscreen are a better fit.
Reassessing your routine each season is essential to keep your skin balanced.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Changing everything at once: introduce one product at a time, and wait 1 to 2 weeks before adding another. This lets you see how your skin tolerates it and what it really does.
- Following trends blindly: your skin's needs are not dictated by social media. A routine should be built on objective criteria.
- Piling on products: too many products can interact badly. Three well-chosen products are better than ten layered for no reason. At WITH CARE, we favor minimalist, targeted skincare.
If your skin stays irritated, reactive, or uncomfortable despite a simple routine, talk to a doctor or a dermatologist.
